Labor

THE LABOR IMPERATIVE

It is imperative that Whack-a-doodle, Tea Party extremist, Shannon Grove not be allowed to get anywhere near Sacramento again.     If she had her way, she would do away with the protections our state provides to workers.  Why else would corporate employers/CEOs be funding Grove's campaign...she is a roadblock to labor justice.

The following facts are supported by reference straight from the Wikipedia website on my opponent, Shannon Grove.

Grove opposes prevailing wage legislation for workers on public-works projects, and has introducedlegislation to roll-back prevailing-wage requirements; this legislation was defeated in committee on a party-line vote.

Grove’s track record against working people just goes on and on. In February 2016, she introduced two pieces of legislation (A.B. 2753 and A.B. 2754) to require California public-employee unions (such as the SEIU) to post itemized budgets online and to hold ratification elections every two years.

Grove sponsored legislation to amend California's Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) of 2004, which allows workers to sue (as private attorneys general) employers who fail to properly pay workers or commit other labor law violations.

Grove specifically sponsored legislation that would, among other things, limit the scope of PAGA suits, cap the financial penalty to violations, and provide a time period for a business owner or corporation a right to cure a violation. Grove argued that PAGA suits had grown out of control, saying: "These PAGA laws benefit a lot of Los Angeles lawyers who come in from other districts to legally rape and pillage business owners in my district.” Rape and Pillage? Lets talk about rape and pillage…since when has it become okay to go ahead and violate the law until you get caught by a worker who is forced to bring a lawsuit? All without any kind of penalty.

I am opposed to privatizing our public resources but Grove never ceases to find new avenues for adding what we have worked so hard for to the corporate portfolio. Grove has advocated for the closure of two state developmental centers, which care for Californians with developmental disabilities. Yet private facilities are not as well regulated and are susceptible to all the ills of privateers who would profit off of the drug industry, overdosing, take from our public resources, may not be subject to union pay scales and would replace our public employee union jobs with part time employees without benefits.

Her cruelty and outlandish attitudes are internationally known. She links abortion legislation and the wrath of God to the drought in California and then votes again legislation that would provide struggling families with diapers for their baby.

RUTH'S SPEECH TO THE CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL, BAKERSFIELD,  9/4/2018.

I know some of you don’t know me from Adam, but most of us live in Senate District 16. You live on Route 58 and I live on Route 66. You live on Hwy 99 and I live on Hwy 95. But we are all on the Highway to Hell if we don’t support our Unions and Solidarity.

In today’s world, unions continue to serve the same purpose for which they were originally founded. CEOs and Executive compensation is skyrocketing while workers suffer from layoffs, unemployment and stagnant wages.

I will work closely with labor unions to help them increase wages, raise the standard of living for the middle-class, ensure safe working conditions, increase benefits to both workers and their families.

Workers need fair treatment today as much as ever. Employers are trying to shed responsibility for providing health insurance, good pension coverage, reasonable work hours and job safety protections.

As the nature of work changes, working people need labor agreements made possible by the collective voice and bargaining power unions provide to keep employers form making the workplace as it was in the early nineteenth century.

As a California Senator, I am that candidate who will work hand in hand with the unions to fight for working people. I am Ruth Musser-Lopez, candidate for State Senator, District 16 and I will protect you (your interests).

Please contribute today! and please do not hesitate to call. I would be glad to answer any questions about my campaign. 760.885.9374 FB campaign: #Ruth.MusserLopez

In solidarity,

Ruth

P.S. We'll fight for our long-term economy and jobs that water provides here at home in SD16 rather than short-term jobs created to build a water heist pipeline to disaster.
