We're IN!!! Thank you for your vote...NOW we can look forward to a spirited and energetic debate on all the issues in California Senate District 16 so that voters will have a clear picture of what their choice will be in the Mid-Term election on November 6. I want to thank those who put their trust in me and took the time to go vote.
VIDEO PRODUCTION: The delayed thanks is due in part to the decision to produce a video to express my strong objection to the Republican administration's policy with regard to child separation at the border. That Trump policy lead to the internment of babies and young children in cages, separating them from their parents who are not criminals but simply seeking asylum from gang violence in Central America (Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador).
In less than 24 hours, the video "ChildSeparation" (linked below) reached over 1.3K viewers. Many of these viewers were in influential positions and within 48 hours, on Wednesday, President Trump had signed an order which he claims will reverse the policy of child separation. Our timely video, along with overwhelming nationwide protests helped turn America around toward more humane treatment of asylum seekers. Sadly, while this video was posting around the state and the country, my opponent "Shannon Grove" was posting selfies and her Bakersfield partying.
Enough nonsense and outrageously priced Walmart building internment camps...our national security needs CAN be met with comprehensive immigration reform reflecting America's compassionate values.
Next, we hope to produce a video about the giant water privatization scheme planned in the eastern part of Senate District 16 in the Cadiz Valley and the greater East Mojave Desert. We call it The Cadiz Water Heist but the whole issue of water privatization in our state has become one which threatens basic fundamental human rights. Imagine a state where the rich people own all the water. This is what happens in the countries that people are now fleeing from.
Some of you who voted for me don’t know me from Adam. Some of you from Senate District 16 live on Route 62. I live on Route 66. Others of you live near Highway 99 on the west side of the district, others live near Highway 95 on the east side of the district. You may travel I-5, I-15 or I-40—these interstates are all part of District 16. One thing we all have in common though, we are all on a downward path if we don’t vote to change course this November.
I am for a livable wage above the present paltry minimum where people must juggle jobs to make ends meet. I will introduce legislation to transition into clean energy technologies and jobs. As a dairyman's daughter, who grew up between a citrus grove and a vineyard in southern California, I know what it takes to protect our agricultural industry; my father was Farm Bureau president in San Bernardino County for ten years and I was privileged to listen to his many conversations, learn from him and his farm literature subscriptions. I have a proven track record of being able to write legislation...I wrote the "Equal Access to Justice" resolution that was passed by the California Democratic Party and effectuated the reopening of rural justice courts. Education plays a crucial role in lifting people out of poverty and our teachers, who are with our most precious asset all day, deserve at least pay equal to other public service employees. Increased investment in our PUBLIC schools is one of my top priorities. My brother died as a result of Agent Orange poisoning while he served in the U.S. Army in the Viet Nam war. I honor the service of our veterans and will see that federal resources are directed to our district.
As a member of the majority in the Senate and supported by Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, I am in a position to work on the same aisle as those who have the power to bring back the medical school to Cal State Bakersfield and to: help move forward affordable tuition and single-payer health care, create healthy communities with affordable housing, child care for working families and usher in a WORLD-CLASS California where education thrives, crime decreases and "freeways" remain free and less congested. Please don't let Shannon Grove and her ignorance blaming climate change on "God's punishment for abortion legislation," her wasted time and taxpayer money trying to legislate for birthday holidays in honor of a racist and her privatized "toll roads" scheme rule the day.
Lastly, I would like to recognize Mr. Tatum on his intelligent campaign against his fellow Republican Shannon Grove and against her support of an untethered flow of assault weapons in the hands of Bakersfield gang members, and I want to recognize Ms.Grove that she was able to muster up her Republican base despite all of the troublesome situations in DC.
Please view the video releases below and have a great summer! Please see my website for a calendar of all of the events I will be attending this summer. See you in September at the Tulare and Kern County Fairs, if not before.
